The name Mahi-Mahi comes from the Hawaiian word for, “very strong” and refers to the fish’s powerful swimming abilities. This is a very sought-after catch in our waters. Known for their incredible speed, they can reach up to 50 mph! These speedy fish can grow up to 7 feet long and weigh as much as 88 lbs, though they are typically found in the 15-40 lb range. Mahi-Mahi has a mild, sweet flesh that turns white when cooked, with a firm, lean texture that’s moist and flavorful. Its taste is stronger than halibut but milder than swordfish, which makes it a popular choice among anglers. With no bag or size limits, a day on the Gulf aboard Chipper’s Clipper targeting these fish is sure to be one for the books.
